In 2016, Mr. Akash Kalita, the Founder and the President of the Native Green Foundation, experimented with the bio-wax of the Colocasia esculenta leaf to create a hydrophobic surface coating substance. The key goal was to use the hydrophobic substance to coat paper and make hydrophobic paper bags, i.e., a biodegradable packaging material. The research aimed to replace plastic bags and paper bags coated with synthetic substances with the paper bag coated with hydrophobic bio-wax.
The research was published in the International Journal of Pharmacy and Biological Sciences in 2018 and has grabbed the interest of many researchers worldwide since then. The full research article is available on the journal’s website and on ResearchGate.
